Albany Common Council passes outdoor smoking ban

Albany bans smoking in all parks and outdoor performing venues.

The city's common council has passed a wide-ranging no-smoking bill, which covers all areas in city parks, including Washington Park and the Corning Preserve, which host events like the "Tulip Festival" and "Alive at Five."

1st Ward Councilwoman Dorcey Applyrs is the bill's primary sponsor.  She says she hopes this bill will help change social norms so smoking stops altogether.

Questions still remain about whether this bill would apply to the city-owned Capital Hills golf course.
