The Popsicle wars are in full swing in Gloversville. And police say it's 'sno' joke.
It's a rivalry between two ice cream truck operators, Sno Cone Joe and Mr. Ding-A-Ling, that has resulted in the arrest of two 'Joe' truck operators for harassment, police say.
Joshua Malatino, 34, and his girlfriend Amanda Scott, 21, both of Gloversville, operate several Sno Cone Joe ice cream trucks and were allegedly stalking and harassing Mr. Ding-A-Ling drivers, police said. The couple was charged Tuesday with Harassment (2nd Degree) and Stalking (4th Degree) following a complaint filed by the owner of the Mr. Ding-A-Ling ice cream truck.
Police say Malatino and Scott would follow the Mr. Ding-A-Ling truck to the area they were selling ice cream, play their music at a high volume, and yell that they have free ice cream, trying to draw customers away from the rival truck.
Malatino was found to have yelled at the Mr. Ding-A-Ling driver, claiming that his business controls the ice cream sales market in the City of Gloversville, police said. Investigators say it happened at least three times: April 16 on West 8th Avenue, April 19 on Forest Street, and April 28 on North Main Street.
Cops also say Malatino called the Mr. Ding-A-Ling headquarters in Latham and said he "owned" Gloversville.
