Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in early 2011 in Arizona, will visit a gun show in Saratoga Springs Sunday.
Giffords and her husband, Captain Mark Kelly, who co-founded “Americans for Responsible Solutions” earlier this year, will visit the Saratoga Springs Arms Fair at noon at the city center. Kelly is a former combat pilot and astronaut. It will be her first trip to a gun show since she was shot.
They will be with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and tour the Saratoga Springs Arms Fair on Sunday, Oct. 13.
Giffords is holding a national campaign for expanded background checks for gun sales. New York enacted the SAFE act earlier this year, expanding a ban on military-style weapons. Giffords was shot in the head in Arizona during a “Congress on your Corner” event on January 8, 2011, a week into her third term. Her right arm remains paralyzed.
There were 13 people injured and six others killed by Jared Lee Loughner.
